Durham Farmers’ County Co‑op is a long‑standing farm supply and agricultural cooperative based in Orono, Ontario, serving the local farming and rural community. It has been serving the region for over 75 years. It offers a wide range of products such as:
- Animal feed (livestock, equine, poultry, pets)
- Crop inputs and fertilizers
- Fencing and farm hardware
- Lawn and garden supplies
- Homestead and household goods
- Local foods and specialty items
The biggest things that make Durham Farmers’ County Co-op stand out from a typical farm supply store comes down to ownership, values and the way the business operates. We are a true co-operative meaning it is owned and controlled by the people it services. Given our deep roots in the community, our culture is built around meeting local needs and reinvesting back.
Members can purchase a lifetime $10 membership and are encouraged to invest in interest‑bearing member loans, which help build the strong financial foundation needed for the co‑operative to thrive. To qualify for potential patronage entitlement, members must also hold a $100 membership loan in addition to the standard membership fee.
- Member Savings on Purchases: 1% member discount applies to bagged feed, seed, and in-store items at time of purchase. In addition to the daily benefits, Durham Farmers’ County Co-op holds members appreciation events where members can take advantage of products and services at special discounts.
- Share the Profits: A co-operative is controlled by the people it services. Its profits are re-invested into the co-operative or community, directly benefiting its members.
- Participate: People make a co-operative. Members can participate in their co-operative, serve on its Board of Directors, attend annual meetings and freely offer suggestions to its directors and management.
- Vote: In keeping with the co-operative philosophy, each member has a single vote. Members elect a Board of Directors to lead the co-operative and give its management direction.
Members can invest in interest‑bearing loans in $100 increments for a 20‑year term. These loans earn 5% interest, which is paid out every five years. Their investment helps build the strong financial foundation the co‑operative needs to thrive. Members who hold these loans may also qualify for potential patronage entitlements.
